Deepa Nallappan

(Artistic Director)

Deepa Nallappan, originally from Bangalore, India, is a Bharatanatyam dancer and instructor based in Montreal. Renowned for her dedication, expertise, and graceful approach to the art of dance, she firmly believes in the transformative power of dance as a means of expression, turning the performer into a distinct persona on stage.

Her remarkable performances at esteemed cultural events, including Chidambaram Natyanjali, Brahan Natyanjali, Natyatharanga, and Nruthya Samagama, have left a lasting impression.

Deepa's commitment extends to passing on the intricacies of Bharathanatyam to the younger generation through her training of children and aspiring young artists. Serving as the Creative Director of "ParamNrithyalaya," a non-profit organization in Montreal dedicated to teaching and promoting Indian Classical arts, she actively contributes to the cultural landscape of the city.

Smita Rao

(Faculty Member)

Smita Rao has an immense passion for dance and started learning Bharatanatyam as a child at Aruna Kalavidaru, Bangalore for more than 10 years. Being a qualified dentist from India, she had put aside her dreams to focus on career and family. Having met Guru Smt Deepa Nallappan in 2014, who kindly accepted her as her student has brought back to life, her devotion and dedication to the art of Bharatanatyam.

She has performed alongside her guru Smt. Deepa Nallappan at the Natyanjali festival Canada in 2016, and 2018. Currently working as a clinical research professional, she is giving her best to balance a full-time career, home and her passion. Being a part of the Natyanjali family every year comes very natural for her out of respect for the art of dance.

It is a platform that she sees as becoming a legacy in the future, for bringing cultures together for a single cause – Celebration of the various dance forms of India.
